Love Stories | Part 3: Friends for Life

Happy Valentine’s Day! It’s a rainy evening here. There is nothing better than curling up with the one you love, a fuzzy blanket and a good blog ;). Valentine’s day is something that I have always had fun celebrating. Whether it’s  Gal-entinte’s day with friends or hanging out with my hunny, it’s a good reminder to slow down and show your loved ones that you care about them!

This next part of the Love Stories  series is full of good reminders that friends oftentimes make the best match… whether or not you know it yet.

As a wedding planner, I often get to see past couples celebrating their newlywed friends. However, I don’t often meet couples who first met at a wedding, but don’t remember each other!  But for Matt and Amy, that is exactly what happened.  Spoiler Alert: They got married in 2021 and love doing life together!

Matt was the best man at a friend’s wedding. The same wedding Amy was a bridesmaid. If it wasn’t for the bridal party photos taken that day, there wouldn’t have been any proof these two were even at the same event. After some time, that same couple invited Matt and Amy to join their kickball league. Of course they joined in the fun, and also became friends. Matt made the first move, but having been highly recommended by friends , Amy knew he was someone special! Slowly their friendship turned into more, as they learned what a great match they are. ( P.s. read their Q + A and you’ll see just how great of a match they are! )

Living in lively Milwaukee, they found that they enjoyed going out at night and shared a love of music, travel and the outdoors. Although they didn’t have all of the same interests, music, travel and exploring the outdoors were all things they could enjoy together. One thing, however, they didn’t see eye-to-eye on was the thought of getting married. Matt was slightly skeptical of marriage, while Amy knew that she wanted to get married.  As an aside: I was lucky enough to witness and help coordinate their wedding, and you would have never guessed there was any hesitation! Every guest I spoke with at Matt and Amy’s wedding raved about the two of them individually, but also mentioned what a perfect match they are for each other.  I couldn’t agree more.

After living it up in Milwaukee, they outgrew their situation and found a spot on the Upper East Side. They continued on doing life together and individually. One day, while on a run, Amy decided to talk to Matt to see if marriage was in their future. Matt didn't exactly give her the exact answer she was looking for, but she was determined to check back in with him after a few months.

Every July, these two have the tradition of camping in Governor Dodge State Park and seeing plays at the American Players Theater.  In July of 2021 Matt decided he wanted to go on a hike. This time it was Amy that was hesitant… being “more food focused”.  Don’t get me wrong, I love a good hike but if it comes to food, I would have been hard pressed to change my mind.  Amy finally agreed to take the hike with Matt. Once they reached the top Matt surprised Amy with a proposal! ( I’m hoping they celebrated with food and drinks!)

After being together for almost 9 years, the two were married 4 months later. Amy had waited long enough and was excited to celebrate her relationship with Matt.  It was a gorgeous and intimate ceremony and reception at the Villa Terrace in Milwaukee. They were surrounded by their closest friends and family in the most authentic celebration of the friends who turned into the perfect match.

Matt, Amy and their sweet pup, Althea, live on the Upper East Side. They are one year into their marriage and continue to adventure and do live together.

They wrote: “ Our love story is one based on blind luck, mutual support of our shared and individual goals, and seeing the best in each other, even if we don’t see it ourselves”.

Being married to your best friend should be that.
